In the inner city extra- curriculum activities are needed just as much as schools are needed. I know from personal experience that being involved in sports save kids and teenagers lives. As a young man growing up in Chicago it is easy to get in trouble and be influenced by the wrong things. One thing that helps to overcome trouble is to be involved in sports. To be a committed athlete takes practice and a lot of hours of hard work and dedication. The more time put into a sport the less time kids have the opportunity to get into trouble. Sports are also needed for health reason, technology has made it easy for people to sit in the house and not be active. With involvement in sports it allows kids live a healthy life but also enhance the kid socially. The more sports in the world the better.
It is interesting that you mention the importance of sport as an extracurricular activity in inner cities. I remember hearing that Michael Jordan was going to donate to some high school programs in Chicago where sports were in danger of being cut. Did you ever hear anything about that?
